Financial Aid Team Previews Banner Options (April 27, 2010)

The OneCarolina Financial Aid team met with representatives from SunGard Higher Education to view software demonstrations and discuss options for online financial aid services. The meetings were part of ongoing OneCarolina Business Process Modeling (BPM) sessions.

OneCarolina will include student financial aid as part of a suite of online services managed by SunGard's Banner software. The meetings were to see a demonstration of Banner, and to discuss how it can be integrated into current University administrative practices. Team members also saw how students will interact with the system online.

"These sessions provided our group with a close-up look at the financial aid configurations in Banner," said Bob Godfrey, senior associate director of financial aid and scholarships, and OneCarolina's Financial Aid Team Leader.  "It has a number of set-up and configuration options that will be really helpful in our integration process."

The team also discussed configuration issues concerning the Luminis self-service portal and online management systems. Dave Brunner, principle process consultant from SunGard HE moderated the meetings. "Our discussions went really well. We were able to make some configuration decisions, and to find areas where further work needs to be done."

The Financial Aid team will continue to work with SunGard on refining the models for online administrative processes.  "Our team particularly liked the self-service features demonstrated in the software," added Godfrey. "With OneCarolina, we want to be able to provide as much as possible to our students in a secure, online, self-service environment."
