Human Resources adds to professional development programs
The Division of Human Resources announced a significant addition to the university's professional development programs. The university recently signed a contract with Skillsoft, one of the world’s leading providers of on-demand e-learning solutions. As a result of this collaboration, USC is able to offer faculty and staff access to the following resources:
Over 3,200 online courses in the areas that USC has licensed;
1,200 on-demand videos featuring top business leaders and best-selling authors; and
More than 20,000 online business books, summaries and reports
Skillsoft programs cover a wide variety of topics including:
Leadership and management;
Business skills;
IT training and certification;
Environmental safety and health compliance; and
Project management
The Division of Human Resources and University Technology Services are partnering to provide faculty and staff access to the Skillsoft content at no cost. University departments will be allocated user licenses, which faculty and staff must use to access the training content. The Division of Human Resources’ Professional Development Office will coordinate with departmental contacts to provide access to licenses to employees designated by those departments.
Because Skillport requires a user license, the Division of Human Resources has allocated licenses in proportion to each organizational unit’s FTE count. Departments have the discretion to allocate a license to any employee that they wish to have access to the training; employees do not have to occupy an FTE slot to be eligible.
Licenses are good from Oct. 1 to Sept. 30 each year, and once a license is assigned, the employee occupies the license for this period. The license cannot be reassigned to another employee.
In the next few weeks, designated “group managers” in each university department will receive the required training for utilizing Skillsoft. This training will include how to submit employee information in the e-learning system. Attendance of the “group managers” will be required in order to receive departmental license allocations. To find out who is a “group manager,” check with individual department’s human resources contact.
Until licenses are allocated employees can explore our Skillport site via a limited access link that allows them to view a small sample of what is available at http://sc.skillport.com. Use the username: Testuser and the password: usclearning. Employees are encouraged to inquire within their department about gaining access to this wonderful opportunity for professional development.
