McNAIR Center

Parts and Assembly

Joining Methods

Making composite parts is one thing, assembling them effectively and efficiently is another. McNAIR is researching fusion bonding techniques for the assembly of thermoplastic fiber composites and hybrid polymer fiber composites.  With our academic and industrial partners we are building the next generation of additive manufacturing and assembly techniques for composites.

Vehicle Design

Developments in aerodynamic analysis, manufacturing technology, and multi-disciplinary design optimization (MDO) allow affordable design and manufacture of mission specific air vehicles in small series, even single units.  McNAIR is part of a national team developing small air vehicles for a variety of tasks. Our expertise in the field of MDO helps the team to find the best solution for each mission.
