Commonly Asked Questions about Academic Advising in the College of Engineering and Computing

Professional staff advise in this college from orientation to graduation.  These advisors specialize in Academic Curriculum in order to help you select courses to meet your academic goals.  They can also connect you to campus resources and partners to make the most of your time at Carolina.

Students who want to know more about how to specialize in their field of study, choice of major electives, course content, career and/or graduate school advice should seek out one of our Faculty Advising Fellows.

Your academic advisor information will appear at the top of your degree audit in DegreeWorks.*

*All changes in advisors are typically reflected by one week after each semester's add/drop deadline.  

During the advisement period, students will receive an e-mail notification to sign up through a direct link. 

Outside of the advisement period students can schedule an appointment online via EAB Navigate.

All advisors keep weekly drop-in hours for any questions or concerns that impact students current term classes or pressing academic concerns.  Drop-in hours are not for the purpose of course selection and an appointment must be made to do so.

The advisement period in the Fall semester typically occurs from the last week of September through the first week of November.  

The advisement period in the Spring semester typically occurs from the last week of February through the first week of April. 

Students who do not sign up for an advising appointment once a final reminder is sent out will not be able to meet with their advisor until after Registration week. 

 

Changing Majors into the College of Engineering and Computing

Students within the USC System interested in changing majors into the College of Engineering and Computing must meet certain GPA and coursework requirements. If you are interested in changing your major to a program of study in the College of Engineering and Computing, use the Change of Major Requirements table to make sure you meet all necessary requirements or schedule an appointment to meet with an Exploratory Advisor.

If you meet the Change of Major Requirements,  you will be required to attend a New Major Information Session before your major change becomes official. Schedule a New Major Information Session online through EAB Navigate
