Carrie Armstrong joined Campus Recreation in the Department of Student Life in June 2016 as the Outdoor Recreation Director. In this role, she helps provide safe, experiential education opportunities for students, faculty, and staff with an emphasis on student leadership development, risk management, advocacy and the acquisition of life-long learning skills.
Carrie also supervises student employees and oversees the climbing wall and challenge course programming. She helps develop and execute outdoor trips and bike maintenance and education programs.
Carrie holds a Bachelors of Science from Southern Illinois University and a Masters in Outdoor Education from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland. After working as a paralegal in Chicago for six years, Carrie decided to pursue a career in outdoor education. She has led backpacking, canoeing, sea-kayaking, rock-climbing and other outdoor trips in Australia and throughout the United States. She most recently has served as a Field Instructor and Adjunct Professor for North Greenville University’s Outdoor Leadership Department.
Carrie loves spending family time outdoors with her husband, daughter and golden retriever. She also enjoys competing in triathlons.
