As aquatics director for Campus Recreation, Mike Chajkowski manages the aquatic facilities at the Blatt Physical Education Center and the Strom Thurmond Wellness and Fitness Center. In this role, he coordinates with Gamecock Athletics, youth club teams and Campus Recreation for use of the pools and teaches CPR, first aid and blood-borne pathogen classes.
Mike also serves as an instructor of intermediate swimming and lifeguarding classes in the Department of Physical Education.
Prior to joining USC, Mike ran a pool management company in Northern Virginia that managed, renovated and built association and club swimming pools. He is an American Red Cross instructor trainer in lifeguarding, CPR and water safety and a National Swimming Pool Foundation certified pool operator instructor.
Mike earned a Bachelor of Arts in Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Administration in 1988 from the University of South Carolina. He was a four-year letterman for the USC swim team and is a former Gamecock record holder.
Mike began swimming while living in Vientiane Laos when his father worked for the Foreign Service and has always been around swimming pools. In his spare time when he is not at the pool, he enjoys playing poker.
