Kelsey Sopko joined the Department of Student Life in May 2017. As facility coordinator,
Kelsey assists with the hiring, training, scheduling and supervising of student employees.
This also role includes implementing student development programs and overseeing the
policies and procedures at both Strom Thurmond Wellness and Fitness Center and the
Solomon Blatt Physical Education Center. Kelsey also assists with event planning,
reservations and operations for both facilities.
Kelsey started her journey with campus recreation at Indiana State University where she was a lifeguard, swim lesson instructor and building supervisor. After receiving a bachelor’s degree in recreational sport management with a concentration in youth leadership, Kelsey continued on to receive a master’s degree in sports administration from Valparaiso University. Throughout her master’s program, Kelsey served as a graduate assistant; overseeing the facility, aquatics, and intramural sports programs at VU. This experience is when she realized her passion was working within campus recreation and being a positive impact in the development of students.
When Kelsey is not at work she likes to be at the pool or beach and exploring her new home in South Carolina. She also enjoys being active, running, and spending time with friends and family.
