Internships and Co-ops

You need to get the relevant work experience that employers are looking for. Confirm your career aspirations and build your resume with an internship or co-op. You'll gain hand-on experience as you begin to cultivate a skillset that reaches beyond the classroom.

Employers increasing seek candidates for full-time jobs who’ve had prior internship or co-op experience.

An internship is usually the length of a typical semester and may be eligible for class credit, depending on your academic department.

Choose an internship related to your major or minor to get the most from it. Internships can be part-time or full-time, paid or unpaid, and are available to students of all majors.

Cooperative Education (Co-op)

Another way to get hands-on experience is through Cooperative Education.  A co-op is available to students with at least 30 hours of coursework and a minimum GPA of 2.5. While no academic credit is granted for a co-op, it is a paid, professional opportunity with the potential to advance your skills in your chosen industry. It usually lasts two to three semesters.
