Kate Shelton, Director of Continuing Education and Conferences, is responsible for noncredit continuing education which includes CEU documentation, conference and event planning services and the administration of Pre-University, Professional Education and Personal Enrichment programs.
Kate earned her B.A. in Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Administration from the University of South Carolina in 1993. As a student and following graduation, Kate worked at USC’s Capstone Conference Center, where her love of conferencing began. In 1996, Kate took a position as the Coordinator for Summer Conferences at the University of Maryland Baltimore County where she split her time working under UMBC's University Center and Residential Life to create a one-stop-shop for her clients. Two years later, Kate became the Conference Coordinator at the Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne, FL. She spent eight years at Florida Tech advancing to Assistant Director of Campus Services and eventually to Associate Director of Professional Development Programs. After ten years away, Kate returned to her alma mater and now serves as Director of Continuing Education and Conferences.
Kate has also served as Regional Director for the Association of Collegiate Conference and Event Directors International (ACCED-I), on the board of the South Carolina Association for Continuing Higher Education (SCAHCE) and is actively involved in her church where she serves on the children’s ministry.
