Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE) Announces New Leadership Team

Provost Joan Gabel has announced the new leadership team for the Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE) at the University of South Carolina. Effective January 1, 2018, Prof. Augie Grant of the School of Journalism and Mass Communications began a four-year term as Director of CTE. Joining Grant on the management team is Associate Director Nate Carnes from the College of Education. Aisha Haynes, who served as the Interim Director of CTE for the past seven months, has been promoted to Assistant Director.

The leadership team brings some great strengths to the CTE. Dr. Grant brings expertise in excellent teaching and a wide knowledge of the different academic and service units across USC which will facilitate future collaborations. Dr. Nate Carnes has a great knowledge about best practices in pedagogy and teaching teachers. Dr. Aisha Haynes will continue sharing her expertise in distributed learning and assume more leadership at the CTE.

“We have a great staff that has consistently increased its services to the USC community over the past ten years, and the goal of the new management team is to keep up that momentum, increasing the number of faculty we serve each term,” Grant said, then emphasized, “But we will always be looking for new ways to help faculty improve their teaching.”

The Center for Teaching Excellence is located on Level 5 of Thomas Cooper Library. CTE’s services include seminars and workshops on teaching techniques and technology, individual consultations with faculty to improves syllabi and distributed education, orientation for new faculty and graduate assistants, and communicating the latest news on pedagogy to the USC faculty.

Faculty are encouraged to access online resources or join the CTE Listserve to stay informed about workshops, events and information.
