Nick Stines has served as the information technology specialist at USC's Baruch Marine Field Laboratory in Georgetown for more than 14 years. He has been responsible for designing, installing, operating, and maintaining the lab's technology connectivity. Through his clear vision of the local needs of Baruch and how to best satisfy them, Nick facilitated the upgrade of data and voice infrastructure that is now essential to research and education programs at the lab. He is highly respected by the resident faculty and staff at Baruch, as well as by the hundreds of visiting students and scientists who rely on internet access and other services on site. Dennis M. Allen, research professor and director, said, "Nick has come up with many innovative solutions that address the many environmental and logistical challenges that face the remote facility. His configuration of a wireless network to provide access among the seven dorm and conference buildings scattered in the pine forest is just one example. Configuring videoconferencing systems with special interfaces in our laboratory and visitor center is another."
