Eric Patterson, senior applications analyst for University Technology Services, was awarded the Outstanding Staff Partner Award from the Division of Student Affairs and Academic Support. The annual award recognizes a University of South Carolina faculty or staff member for his outstanding contribution to the community and university through service. Patterson was selected based on his work with the National Resource Center for the First-Year Experience and Students in Transition.
Jennifer Keup, director of the National Resource Center for the First-Year Experience and Students in Transition, nominated Patterson for the award. In the nomination, she cited Patterson's development of E-Commerce and online registration forms for all of the National Resource Center's professional development activities.
Keup said, "Our previous inability to operate in an E-Commerce environment led to a tremendous number of staff hours managing paper transitions, undermining our ability to achieve our mission, vision and goals. It also threatened the public perception and reputation of the Center and the university."
"Since Center events are one of the ways the university is represented to partners and constituents across the country and internationally, the successful implementation of the E-Commerce system was a significant enhancement to our operations and an important advancement in our ability to provide access to these events for educators worldwide," Keup said.
Patterson has also developed systems to make other departments across the university more efficient including University 101 and Greek Housing. He also developed an application to facilitate communication and requests between student organizations and the university.
