Position openings at the Center for Digital Humanities

The Center for Digital Humanities is looking to fill several part-time positions: an Assistant Programmer and an Administrator / Project Manager.


 The description for the position of Assistant Programmer is as follows:

  • The Center for Digital Humanities is a campus unit that builds software, databases and websites for scholarly uses by faculty, staff and students at USC. We also sponsor trainings and public events such as workshops and lectures on topics in digital humanities scholarship and computer and information science. CDH consists of a total of 7 people including faculty and staff.
  • Undergraduate Computer Science major preferred.
  • 10-15 hours per week, starting immediately.
  • Proficiency in Python preferred.
  • 3.0 GPA or higher preferred.
  • Recommendation of at least one computer science professor required.
  • Hourly wage $12 per hour.

 The description for the position of Administrator / Project Manager is as follows:

  • The Center for Digital Humanities is a campus unit that builds software, databases and websites for scholarly uses by faculty, staff and students at USC. We also sponsor trainings and public events such as workshops and lectures on topics in digital humanities scholarship and computer and information science. CDH consists of a total of 7 people including faculty and staff.
  • Position is part-time (20-35 hours per week), starting immediately.
  • We have every expectation that this will become a full-time, salaried position with benefits within 6 months. The ideal candidate will be seeking eventual long-term, full-time employment.
  • Work experience should demonstrate strong attention to detail in office work.
  • Clerical work, including:
    • take notes at meetings 3-5 times per week and make to do lists for team
    • process expense reimbursements
    • document projects for CDH internal records
    • events planning and logistics
  • Keeping track of team progress on 5-10 simultaneous ongoing projects (lots of moving parts).
  • Keeping our office systems up to date: running data back-ups, some social media.
  • Good writing (organization, clarity, style) is very important.
  • Ideal candidate would have advanced proficiency with MS Excel (make complex budgets and use lots of formulas).
  • Interest in Digital Humanities, humanities scholarship, information technology a plus.
  • Wage is $15/hour.
  • There is room for growth - position and responsibilities can grow as the Center grows.
