Nelda Bailey

Assistant Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life

As the Assistant Director of Fraternity & Sorority Life, Nelda Bailey serves as the lead staff member for on-call duty rotation for Greek Village focusing on student health, fire safety, crisis intervention and response. She also advises the Multicultural Greek Council, National Pan-Hellenic Council, Order of Omega and the Greek Programming Board.

Nelda previously worked at Texas Tech University, where she advised and co-advised the four different councils in Fraternity & Sorority Life, lead Risk Education and Training efforts, and developed programming to enhance leadership skills.

Nelda earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from the University of Louisiana Lafayette in 2013 and a Master of Science in Counselor Education concentrating in Student Affairs from Mississippi State University in 2015. Nelda is also a member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.

In her spare time, Nelda loves reading books, watching movies, planning, enjoying food in all of its forms and traveling to new and exciting places.

Kayleigh Campbell

As the Assistant Director of Greek Leadership Development and Training, Kayleigh Campbell develops officer training, Greek leadership programs and oversees chapter management. She also coordinates advisor trainings.

Kayleigh previously worked as a graduate assistant for Student Government, where she advised members of the student senate and the student body vice president. She also advised the elections commission and commissioner. Before that, Kayleigh served as a Collegiate Leadership Consultant for Gamma Phi Beta sorority, an admissions counselor at Houston Baptist University and taught seventh-grade math in Kansas City, Mo., for Teach for America.

Kayleigh earned a Bachelor of Science in Human Resource Development from Texas A&M and will complete a Masters of Education in Higher Education and Student Affairs at USC-Columbia in December 2016.

Steve Curtright

As associate director for fraternity and sorority housing in the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life, Steve Curtright oversees the maintenance, fire safety and common grounds for the Greek Village. He develops training curriculum for the property managers who manage each house in the Greek Village, coordinates the property manager staff selection process and supervises several property managers. In addition, he implements community-wide policies and procedures regarding Greek housing on campus.

As a student at the University of Nebraska, Steve was initiated into the Nebraska Alpha chapter of Phi Delta Theta. After graduation, he served as a leadership consultant and as the director of expansion for Phi Delta Theta from 2009 to 2011 where he traveled the United States working with fraternity chapters on college campuses. Before coming to Carolina in July 2013, Steve worked as a graduate assistant/resident director for two fraternities at the University of Arkansas.

Steve earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Nebraska in 2009 and a Master of Education in Higher Education Administration from the University of Arkansas in 2013. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his wife and his pug, “Pancakes,” grilling out and cheering on the Nebraska football Cornhuskers. He considers himself to be a leisure sports enthusiast.

Jarod Holt

As associate director of fraternity and sorority life, Jarod Holt coordinates the sorority and fraternity life budgetary process including the management of programming funds, overseeing fraternity recruitment, developing and facilitating ongoing risk reduction education, advising Fraternity Council and Greek Conduct Board and participating in planning, assessment and risk management programming for fraternities and sororities at USC. He coordinates strategic planning for the fraternity and sorority community with a focus on retention and assessing the Greek experience. In addition, he supervises seven of the Greek Village property managers.

Jarod was promoted to this role in October 2014. He had previously served as assistant director of fraternity and sorority life since November 2012.

Jarod was a graduate assistant in University Housing, serving as the residence hall director for the Horseshoe and the Roost. After completing his master’s degree, Jarod worked as a living center director at Grand Valley State University before returning to USC. He also previously served as associate director of chapter services and educational leadership consultant with Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity Inc.

Jarod earned a Bachelor of Science in Exercise and Sports Science from the University of South Carolina Aiken in 2006 and a Master of Education in Higher Education and Student Affairs from the University of South Carolina in 2013. He is an avid Gamecock sports fan, runner and cyclist. Jarod and his wife met at Carolina while they were both in graduate school. He says that USC is a great place to work and has amazing students.

Carli Mercer

Carli Mercer joined the Department of Student Life in June 2017 as the Associate Director of Fraternity & Sorority Life. In this role, she will be advising the College Panhellenic Association, including assisting with Panhellenic sorority recruitment and working with the 13 chapters within the council. Carli will also work closely with other Fraternity & Sorority Life staff to assist in supervision of the Greek Village property managers.

Carli earned a bachelor’s degree in organizational communication and a master’s degree in higher education leadership from Northwest Missouri State University. Carli’s previous experience includes working in the Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life at Arizona State University for nearly four years.

Carli’s outside interests include exploring her new town of Columbia, visiting the farmers market, trying restaurants and getting involved in the community.
