Staying on top of deadlines is critical to student success. This list of Student Success Center-sponsored events and workshops can help you stay inspired and informed all year long.

Sophomore September

A month-long program to help students adjust to their second year at USC, SophoMORE September will consist of MORE than 25 events that involve food, fun and prizes. Come share resources and join discussions key to your second year at the University of South Carolina. Events are designed for second-year students but are open to all students at USC.

Sophomores can pick up a punch card at any of the main events, to have signed by an SSC staff member at each one they attend. All students will need to swipe their Carolina Card at events, so please have it with you. Attend eight events and win a free t-shirt. Attend 10 events and win a t-shirt and another great prize! #UofSC20 #sophseptember17 

Sept. 18 — Sustainability Showcase: Research and Practice

When: Monday, Sept. 18, 5 p.m. - 7 p.m.
Where
Russell House University Union Ballroom

Research goes green at the Sustainability Showcase. Check out sustainability-related research from USC students and faculty. It’s also the perfect time to learn how to connect sustainability to your major or Graduation with Leadership Distinction (GLD).

Sept. 20 — Curbside Wellness Fair

When: Wednesday, Sept. 20, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Where: Davis Field

Learn about available health and wellness resources at the university and enjoy food samples and giveaways from campus dietitians and wellness partners.

Hip Hop Wednesday

When: Wednesday in September (TBD) 
Where: Greene Street, in front of Russell House University Union

Greene Street comes alive with new and old school hip hop while students learn about opportunities to engage with diversity opportunities on campus.

Sept. 19-26 — Job Fair Prep Week / Workshop

When: Sept. 19, 20, 21, 22, 25 and 26, 1 p.m. - 4 p.m.

Career Center, 5th floor of the Thomas Cooper Library (go in main level and go DOWN one level)

Are you looking for an internship or a full-time job? Do you plan to attend the CareerFest or S.E.T. Job Fairs on Sept. 27? Then, pop in during Job Fair Prep Week and get advice from industry experts and Career Center staff through: resume reviews, mock interviews, workshops and Q&A during drop-in hours. Career Center staff will send a list of sophomore participants.

Sept. 20 — Workshop: 168 Prioritization 

When: Wednesday, Sept. 20, 4:25 p.m.

Every student is different, but one thing remains constant; there are 168 hours in each week. Although students bring with them an array of circumstances and obligations, managing the time that they have is important to their personal and academic success. We will provide strategies to assist students in making the best of their time.

Learn about common struggles and frequently asked questions Major Change Advising and Academic Success Coaching encounter with sophomores at USC, and what they can do to help get you to a degree.

Sept. 21 — Cooking 101: Packing Lunches for Off-Campus to Campus

When: Thursday, Sept. 21, 5:30 p.m.

If you have moved off campus and you have a kitchen, it might be time for some healthy-cooking tips. Join us for a free cooking demo in the Student Health Center, RSVP required by 9/19.

Sept. 25 — Craft Night De-Stressor: Paint a Pig!

When: Monday, Sept. 25, 6 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.
Where: Center for Health and Well-Being Outdoor Patio

Rain location: Student Success Center

Paint a piggy bank while you get tips on ways to save money and reduce stress. Supplies are limited and will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.

Sept. 27 — Mutual Expectations: Academic Advising

Sit down with academic advisers and enjoy lunch and a discussion about expectations in the advising relationship, RSVP required.

Sept. 27 — CareerFest / S.E.T. Fair

Columbia Convention Center

Students and employers meet to talk about career, internship and co-op possibilities. Now is the time to start planning for your future internship experience, dress to impress! Shuttles are available around campus.

Sept. 28 — Workshop: How to Pay the Bills

Moving off-campus for the first-time? Have a tighter budget than last year? This interactive workshop will give you an opportunity to chat about how to pay the bills and balance a budget.

Diversity Dialogue

Join your peers for dinner and dialogue at the Diversity Dialogue.

Sept. 30 — Service Saturday

When: Saturday Sept. 30, 8:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

Serve at various community locations throughout Columbia and give back to our community while spending time with your classmates. Transportation and are lunch provided. RSVP is required.
