Changes to University VPN

The Division of Information Technology will introduce a new Virtual Private Network (VPN) on Friday, May 12, 2017. The VPN is used for secure access to university resources, including shared drives, databases, and select systems when a student, faculty, or staff member is away from campus. The new VPN will require users to download software from my.sc.edu. Installation instructions can be downloaded with the software.

 Users of the VPN will see several improvements, including the support of newer operating systems, easier use for Linux and Mac users, the ability to accommodate 10 times more users than the previous system, and improved security. The new VPN does not require the use of Java.

 This initiative is part of our continued commitment to securing our information and networks, and providing quality service to our customers. Faculty, staff, and students are encouraged to immediately begin using the new VPN on May 12. The legacy VPN will be retired in the near future.
