Changes in Email Alias System

In order to provide a more secure email environment and improve operational efficiency, University Technology Services (UTS) will change the way email aliases operate later this month.

Campus Wireless Emergency Change at 4:30 on January 10

An emergency change to the student and faculty/staff wireless will be made at 4:30 p.m. today, January 10th. Wireless users will see a disruption in WIFI service until 7 p.m. We apologize for the inconvenience.

New Guest Wireless Network Coming Dec. 20

The way guests to the Columbia campus connect to the wireless network will change on Tuesday, December 20.

Blackboard Upgrade Scheduled for Dec. 18

Blackboard will be unavailable on Sunday, December 18 while annual maintenance takes place.

President Announces New Chief Information Officer

Doug Foster will join the university as the new Vice President for Information Technology and CIO in early 2017.

Several University Systems Will Be Unavailable During Upgrade on Nov. 6

An important update will be made to the Shibboleth database on Sunday, November 6 from 6 AM to 2 PM. Several university systems that require university authentication to login will be unavailable during the update including my.sc.edu, PeopleSoft, ServiceNow, and more. Please make note of this temporary outage and make plans accordingly.

New Self-Service Website Launched October 17

University Technology Services (UTS) launched a new self-service website on October 17, 2016 to allow customers to easily request technology assistance online.

Students, Faculty and Staff Invited to Learn More About Gartner

University Technology Services is pleased to announce a partnership with Gartner, Inc., the world's leading technology research and advisory company. All university faculty, staff and students have free access to the most comprehensive research and data on information technology through Gartner's research portal.

Maintenance to my.sc.edu Scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 18

Maintenance will be performed on my.sc.edu on Sunday, September 18. The system will be unavailable from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Students, faculty and staff will be unable to access CarolinaCard, software distribution and more. Please make note of this outage and plan accordingly.

Enhancements to Gamecock Cable

All channels on Gamecock Cable will be broadcast in high definition beginning Friday, August 12.

Adobe Connect Upgrade

Many new features and enhancements will be available in Adobe Connect.

IT Security Measures Effective July 1

Effective July 1, 2016, the State of South Carolina will require multifactor authentication (MFA), also known as two-step verification, to remotely access systems on the USC network. MFA protects the university by making sure stolen or guessed passwords are insufficient to obtain access to university systems.

Adobe ended support for Acrobat X effective November 23.

Phishing scheme compromises some student email accounts

A malicious email received by several students has compromised their accounts. All messages received are now forwarded to an unknown account. Follow the directions here to reset your email access.

eduroam

The Division of Information Technology is pleased to announce a new Wi-Fi service offering for traveling faculty, researchers, students and staff called eduroam. The new eduroam service will become active on the USC Columbia campus on October 19, 2015.

Email database to be migrated

Exchange email will be moved to a new file server. No interruption in service is expected, but users may see a pop-up in the bottom right corner of their screen.

New Voicemail System Installed

This summer, the university telephone system was upgraded and a new voice mail system was installed. Access this article for information regarding the changes.

EntertaiNET is a new wireless network that on-campus students can use for gaming and streaming video devices.

SCAM ALERT! Phishing Emails Circulating Around Campus

Many students, faculty, and staff have reported receiving emails indicating they are no longer registered email users at the university and should provide their username and password in order to remain active. This email is FRAUDULENT. Do not respond.
