USC Palmetto College iCarolina Learning Labs celebrate 10K visitors

COLUMBIA, SC- The USC Palmetto College iCarolina Learning Lab Network has reached a significant milestone. To date, the eight established iCarolina Learning Labs have served over 10,000 visitors across South Carolina.

Kershaw, S.C. - Today, the University of South Carolina Lancaster officially opened a new Palmetto College iCarolina Learning Lab in the Kershaw, S.C., community. The new lab is the second location operated by USC Lancaster.

The University of South Carolina Union officially opened two new Palmetto College iCarolina Learning Labs in the Clinton and Laurens communities. Both of the new labs are operated by the USC Union - Laurens Location.

The University of South Carolina has announced that USC Palmetto College will launch two new Palmetto College iCarolina Learning Labs in the Clinton and Laurens communities. Both of the new labs will be operated by the USC Union - Laurens Location. These two new labs join five other labs that have opened in Allendale, Lancaster, Sumter, Union and Walterboro to provide underserved communities in South Carolina with access to high-speed broadband internet.

Palmetto College iCarolina Labs provide free broadband access to under-served South Carolina Communities

Thanks to a $6 million grant from South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster, the University of South Carolina's regional Palmetto College campuses and Benedict College are able to bridge the gap in providing access at designated locations within the state's broadband deserts. Five of the six Palmetto College iCarolina Labs are currently open at USC Union, USC Lancaster, USC Sumter and USC Salkehatchie at the Allendale and Walterboro campuses, respectively.

Cone named new campus dean of USC Salkehatchie

Allendale, S.C. - April Cone has been named campus dean of the University of South Carolina Salkehatchie. USC Salkehatchie has campuses in Allendale and Walterboro, and it is one of four regional USC Palmetto College campuses - including USC Lancaster, USC Sumter and USC Union - in the University of South Carolina System.

Announcement of Search for USC Salkehatchie Dean

A Search Advisory Committee has been appointed to lead the search for the next Dean of USC Salkehatchie. The committee will convene its first meeting in February at the USC Salkehatchie campus in Allendale, South Carolina. Committee meetings that follow will be alternated between the Allendale and Walterboro campuses.

UofSC announces iCarolina Learning Lab at UofSC Union

Today, the University of South Carolina announced that the Palmetto College iCarolina Community Learning Lab at UofSC Union will be open to the public on Friday, February 25. The computer lab, located in the Union County Carnegie Library at 300 East South Street, will be one of eight labs opening throughout South Carolina and will provide underserved communities with access to high-speed broadband internet.

Lowell named new campus dean of USC Union

Union, S.C. - Randy Lowell has been named dean of the University of South Carolina Union. His appointment was announced on Friday, July 23, by Palmetto College Chancellor Susan Elkins, who cites his exemplary record of progressive administrative leadership and teaching experience at USC Union.

Palmetto College Fall 2020 - Tentative Schedule

Dear Palmetto College family, President Caslen has just released a statement announcing that the Columbia campus will resume in-person instruction in mid-August for the fall semester. The message includes some of the considerations, precautions and plans for mitigation needed to accomplish a reopening at that time. Please note that no student, faculty or staff member will be required to return.

Cox named dean of the new USC Palmetto College Columbia

Maxie Myron (Ron) Cox Jr. has been named dean of the new USC Palmetto College Columbia, an academic division within the overall USC Palmetto College that was previously known as "Extended University."

Nesmith named new dean of USC Salkehatchie

Chris Nesmith has been named dean of the University of South Carolina Salkehatchie. He previously served as associate provost and dean of Extended University, a division of Palmetto College housed on USC's Columbia campus, and he has served as interim dean of the Walterboro and Allendale campuses since Jan. 1. USC Salkehatchie is one of four Regional Palmetto Colleges - including USC Lancaster, USC Salkehatchie and USC Sumter - in the University of South Carolina System.

USC Palmetto College Five-Year Report

The University of South Carolina Palmetto College was launched in 2013 with four regional two-year USC campuses (USC Lancaster, USC Salkehatchie, USC Sumter and USC Union); two sites (Fort Jackson and Shaw Air Force Base) and seven bachelor's degree completion programs from the four senior USC institutions. The initial and ongoing mission has been to provide an accessible, affordable and flexible higher education and the opportunity to earn a USC associate degree or complete a USC bachelor's degree within their local communities.

The John J. Duffy Excellence in Teaching Award for Palmetto College Campuses

The John J. Duffy Excellence in Teaching Award for Palmetto College Campuses has been presented annually since 2009 to a faculty member who exemplifies excellence in and out of the classroom. The 2017-2018 Duffy Teaching Award was presented to Shelley Jones, assistant professor of English in Extended University.

The Chris P. Plyler Excellence in Service Award for Palmetto College Campuses

The Chris P. Plyler Excellence in Service Award for Palmetto College Campuses is presented to a faculty member who personifies excellence in service to the campus, university, community and profession. This award was first given in 2015. The 2017-2018 Plyler Service Award was presented to Ray McManus, associate professor of English at USC Sumter.

The Denise R. Shaw Excellence in Scholarship Award for Palmetto College Campuses

The Denise R. Shaw Excellence in Scholarship Award for Palmetto College Campuses, first given in 2017, is presented to a faculty member who exhibits outstanding scholarship. The 2017-2018 Shaw Scholarship Award was presented to Christine Sixta Rinehart, associate professor of political science at USC Union.

The road less taken

Heather Coleman might be the perfect student to receive the inaugural Harriett Hurt scholarship. Coleman, 49, is working on a bachelor's degree in liberal studies with concentrations in sociology and psychology, with plans to graduate in 2020, the same year her youngest child will finish high school.
