Financial Aid Eligibility Requirements
Once you complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and it is received by USC, you should check your Financial Aid Eligibility and Requirements on Self-Service Carolina (SSC).
Students should review this tab and check on satisfied and unsatisfied requirements. If you have unsatisfied requirements, please check the instructions to see what is required to satisfy the requirements. Once the information is processed by the Financial Aid Office, SSC will show the requirement as satisfied.
Students should review the holds tab for any issues that may affect their financial aid.
To receive financial aid, students must be making Satisfactory Academic Progress towards their degree. On this tab students can check on where they stand compared to the Financial Aid Satisfactory Academic Progress Standards.
Financial Aid Awards
You can view your financial aid awards by logging on to SSC. You must follow all instructions provided to ensure that your financial aid awards will be available for fee payment and disbursement. After reviewing your awards, all that is left do is to accept or reject your offers for the award year.
The majority of grants — free money that does not need to be paid back — and institutional scholarships are automatically accepted on your behalf. If you have been awarded a LIFE Scholarship or SC Needs Based Grant (SNBG), you must complete the required certification.
- Choose Financial Aid, Award, and then Award for Aid Year.
- Choose Awards Overview tab. By choosing the Terms and Conditions tab you can also complete the required certification forms for LIFE, or State Need-Based Grant awards.
However any loans (Federal Direct Subsidized, Unsubsidized and Federal Perkins Loans) offered will require your decision. You can accept or decline your Federal Direct Subsidized/Unsubsidized and Federal Perkins Loans online through SSC.
If necessary, you may be required to sign a Master Promissory Note and/or to complete Entrance Loan Counseling. To see if you need to complete these requirements, choose "Financial Aid" on SSC, then "Awards", "Award for the Aid Year" and then "Requirements".
- Click here to complete Entrance Loan Counseling and a Master Promissory Note for Federal Direct Loans.
- Click here to complete Entrance Loan Counseling and a Master Promissory Note for the Federal Perkins Loan or the Nursing and Health Professions loans.
Once all responsibilities have been fulfilled, your loans will appear on the Award Overview tab. Note: all references to loan awards will reflect gross amounts awarded, not net amounts to be received.
Any recipient of Federal Financial Aid must complete the Title IV Authorization. By agreeing to the authorization, the student authorizes Federal Financial Aid to be applied to charges on the student's bill other than tuition and to allow payment of prior year non-institutional charges of up to $200.
For example, if the authorization is not provided, things like parking permits would not be paid by Title IV funds. Students may then need to pay these charges using other funds.
- Log into Self Service Carolina
- Go to Financial, Awards, and then Award for Aid Year
- Select the Resources & Additional Information tab and read the Title IV Fee Authorization. If you have not already completed this authorization, you must read the certification and choose Agree or Disagree in the dropdown box.
If you change your mind after you have submitted your decision on the Title IV Fee Authorization you need to contact the campus Business Office to update this information.
The Financial Aid Shopping Sheet is designed to help you assess your total cost of attending a USC Palmetto College Campus. Using a simplified format, the sheet presents information about your available financial aid, net costs, and how much you should expect to pay out-of-pocket. This information should be used to help you compare financial aid packages offered by different institutions.
You will be able to access the shopping sheet in SSC after you have been awarded aid for the requested academic year.
To view and print the Federal Shopping Sheet:
- Log into Self Service Carolina
- Go to Financial Aid Tab
- Select Federal Shopping Sheet
The figures noted in the shopping sheet are based on estimates; your specific costs may differ from the information provided.
Summer Financial Aid
For Financial Aid purposes, summer is considered to be the end of the academic year. Therefore, the eligibility of each student aid applicant for summer funds is based upon each student's remaining annual limits for grants and loans, also all summer parts of term are combined into one processing term.
To be considered for federal financial aid for summer, you must have a current year Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) [the one used to award the preceding fall and spring semesters] on file. In addition to the FAFSA, a USC Financial Aid Summer Application is required each summer.
The summer application is available on SSC beginning April 1. The deadline to complete the application is May 1. Because of compressed time frames for summer, our office must adhere to strict application deadlines. However, the application will remain on the web through June 1 and late applications will be processed on a case by case basis.
