About the Program
The minor in Environmental Studies within the School of the Environment seeks to promote awareness of environmental issues; to educate and coordinate basic and applied research to address state, national, and world ecological issues; and to conduct research with the institutes/centers of the School that improves the Earth.

Career Opportunities
Students interested in studying the environment can pick from a variety of careers. Many positions require some graduate study. Here are a few of the possibilities:

Admission/Progression Requirements
To be admitted into the University of South Carolina, you must meet all University admissions requirements, including (for freshmen) a completed application, non-refundable application fee, high-school record complete up to the time of application (including record of at least 20 academic units of study earned as required by the University), and entrance examination scores (either SAT or ACT). Details for all applicant categories can be found in the Undergraduate Bulletin. To remain in your degree program, you must make satisfactory academic progress toward your degree. In order to be eligible for graduation, you must meet all course requirements for your degree program, be in good standing, meet any departmental or program requirements, and have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.00. Students must speak with their academic advisor before declaring a minor.

Program of Study (120 hours)
The minor in Environmental Studies consists of a minimum of 18 hours. Four courses constitute the required core. The remaining hours must come from the approved courses list. Students wishing to enter the Environmental Studies minor first complete ENVR 101 and 101L as a prerequisite. A course in Statistics (STAT 110 or equivalent) is strongly recommended. All prerequisite courses may be used to meet general education requirements, if applicable.
