Management Science: What to Expect
Management Science majors learn under accomplished faculty in the field at the prestigious Darla Moore School of Business. As a Management Science major, you will explore the analytical use of information in business management. You have the option of specializing in three areas: Business Information Systems, Business Information Management, or Global Supply Chain and Operations. Each of these programs consists of cutting-edge courses and encourages students to enhance their academic experience through internship opportunities.
The Global Supply Chain & Operation Management (GSCOM) program at the Darla Moore School of Business is the primary track of the Management Science major. The program is truly unique and stands apart from other business school programs in Operations and Supply Chain Management. GSCOM majors are taught courses with material that prepares them for careers in global manufacturing firms, service firms, and consulting firms. Even while pursuing other majors in the Darla Moore School of Business, GSCOM knowledge and skills provide valuable complementary competencies. What makes our program stand out from the rest is the opportunity for our students to get the actual lean-six-sigma green-belt certification from the industry through a rigorous coverage of lean-six-sigma approach to supply chain and operations management, a formal written green-belt exam from Sonoco Product Company (a $4 billion global manufacturing firm), and completion of a major certified project in one of our center partner firms to meet the “project requirement” for green-belt certification. There is no other program that provides such a rich opportunity in lean-six-sigma certification from industry to its undergraduate students in business.
