The 20th International Congress of Byzantine Studies is to take
place in Paris from the 19th-25th August, 2001. The French organizers
have provided suggestions for several morning plenary sessions
(Byzantine law; Westerners in towns in the provinces of the Byzantine
Empire; Villages in the Byzantine Empire, 5th-14th century; Byzantium
between the Christian West and the Muslim world: artistic relations;
The periphery in time and space). They have also proposed some topics
for afternoon Round Tables. The final planning session will take place
this November, at which time all proposals for plenary sessions and
Round Tables will be discussed.
