USC Salkehatchie

Founded in 1965 in Allendale, the USC Salkehatchie campus has locations in both Allendale and Walterboro. The campus serves Allendale, Bamberg, Barnwell, Colleton, and Hampton counties. The physical plant in Allendale consists of 16 buildings on a 95-acre tract of land including a modern science/mathematics building along with athletic facilities. A $2 million learning resources building was completed and occupied in fall 1991. The Walterboro campus includes three buildings: a large classroom building, a free-standing library, and a gymnasium.

The curriculum includes all USC courses required for freshmen and sophomores which may be applied to the general education requirements for baccalaureate majors at the USC Columbia campus and other institutions.

Off-campus offerings are available at area high schools and other sites in the service area. To complement credit courses, Salkehatchie also offers, under the auspices of the USC Graduate School, additional courses for degree-seeking students and for teacher recertification purposes. Continuing education or noncredit courses are also available for the five-county area residents which provide unique cultural and educational opportunities as well as a wide variety of community service activities. USC Salkehatchie is in partnership with the eight-county, 16-school district Salkehatchie Consortium for public schools. Enrollment for fall 2001 was 860.
