ELECTRONIC CHECK PAYMENTS:

In our effort to trim the cost associated with credit card payments, the University has established electronic checks as an alternative method of paying tuition and fees without adding more fees to your bill. Please follow the steps below to pay your fees by electronic check.

  • Log onto my.sc.edu using your VIP ID and password.
  • Click on the Account Information tab.
  • Click on the Payment Gateway tab and another window will open.
  • Click on the Make a Payment tab.
  • The Account Payment Screen which displays the current balance and any pending payments will open. Click on the Make a Payment tab.
  • Select either Pay by Term or Current Account Balance.
  • Click Continue.
  • Click the Select Payment Method drop down box and choose the New Electronic Check (checking/saving) option. You can also use previously saved checking/savings accounts under this option.
  • Click the Select button.
  • From the Account type drop down menu click Checking or Savings. You cannot use corporate checks, i.e. credit cards, home equity, traveler's checks, etc.
  • This must be a personal checking account. Do not use a corporate or debit card for the electronic check payment option.
  • Click View Example if you have any questions about the information required to complete this transaction.
  • Enter the Routing number, Account number and the billing information for this account. Please note: when choosing the saving account option, please be sure to use the routing number from the withdrawal slip and NOT the deposit slip. You may also contact your financial institution to get the correct routing number.
  • Click the box under Refund Options to have refunds deposited directly into this account. You will not be able to do this if you have already set up an account for eRefund direct deposits. You can only set up one account for refund deposits.
  • You can save this method of payment by clicking on the Save this payment method for future use checkbox and key in a name for this account.
  • Click Continue and review your Confirmation to ensure the transaction details are correct.
  • Click the I agree to the terms and conditions checkbox to continue this transaction.
  • Click the Print Agreement link if you would like a copy for your records.
  • Click the Submit Payment tab to authorize the transaction. You will receive a confirmation email with the payment details.
  • Click on the Payment History tab to review a record of the details.

CREDIT CARD PAYMENTS:

Credit card payments can only be made online at my.sc.edu. Only MasterCard, Discover and American Express cards are accepted. There is a 2.5% convenience fee for the use of a credit or debit card.

  • Log onto my.sc.edu using your VIP ID and password.

  • Key in your credit card and billing information.

  • Click the Submit Payment tab to authorize the transaction. You will receive a confirmation email with the payment details.
  • Click on the Payment History tab to review a record of the details.

FINANCIAL AID - SCHOLARSHIPS, LOANS OR GRANTS:

Note: Financial Aid will automatically apply to your student account once you have completed all financial aid requirements. Please check the Financial Aid Refund Check distribution dates on the Payments Deadlines tab.

PAYMENT IN-PERSON:

In-person payments are accepted Monday thru Friday, from 8:30 am until 5:00 pm at the Bursar's Office at 516 Main Street, between Blossom and Wheat Streets. We only accept cash, checks, money orders and cashier’s checks in person. Credit and debit card payments must be made online at my.sc.edu.

PAYMENT BY MAIL:

Please pay attention to the mail-in cut-off date noted in the "Payment Deadlines" calendar located on the Bursar's Office web page. If you pay your fees by mail, please include the student’s name and VIP ID along with your check or money order made payable to USC for the balance due amount and mail to:

(Please review the "Payment Deadlines" calendar on our website for all mail-in payment deadlines and bill payment deadlines. If your bill is not paid by the deadlines listed, your registration will be cancelled.)

POSTING OF PAYMENTS:

The Bursar's Office receipts all mail-in payments as they are received. Self Service Carolina payments are processed as they are recorded electronically.

Payment Plans

Fall and Spring Semesters

The University of South Carolina offers a payment plan option for students. The tuition and fees balance is divided into four equal payments. The plan costs $75.00 per semester to set up. The first payment of 25% and the $75.00 fee is due by the first cancellation date. The remaining three payments are due over the next three months on or around the 10th of the month. There is a late charge of $100.00 per month up to a maximum of $300.00 per semester. The payment plan needs to be set up every semester.
  1. Log into my.sc.edu.
  2. Click on the Account Information link.
  3. Click the Payment Gateway link.
  4. Click on the Payment Plan link at the top of the screen.
  5. Click on the Enroll Now tab.
  6. Choose the appropriate term to set up the payment plan.
  7. Payment Plan information will show up on the screen. Please read this information, then click Continue to move to the next section.
  8. Click Display Payment Schedule to show the monthly payments.
  9. To set up Scheduled Payments you must opt-in by selecting the "Yes" button on this screen. By selection "No" you are agreeing to make your installment payments on your own. If everything looks fine, click the Continue button.
  10. Click on Select Payment Method. Choose from a saved account, a new electronic check or a credit or debit card (MasterCard, American Express or Discover). There is a 2.5% percent convenience fee for the use of a credit or debit card. There is no charge for an electronic check. Then click the Select button.
  11. The Plan Enrollment Agreement will appear. Please review this information carefully, then click the I Agree check box.
  12. To finalize the agreement, click the Continue button.
  13. The online receipt will appear and can be printed out.
