Nicaragua Maymester Educational Trip 2018

Course Name: EDUC 360 Global & Multicultural Perspectives on Education in International Settings
Dates: May 20th - May 31st
Led by: Dr. Julia López-Robertson and Capstone Scholars Assistant Principal Cassie Davis
Basic Program Fee: $2190: includes all meals, bottled water, all in country transportation, lodging, guides, interpreters, training seminars, presentations and lectures.
Non-refundable deposit: $285
Application window: October 25th to November 15th
Notification of status: December 1st, 2017
Other Logistics:

  • 3 credit hours USC tuition
  • Airfare to Managua (as of 10/16) is approximately $650.00 round trip
  • $150 Study Abroad Application Fee and $30 Travel Insurance due March 1
  • Please budget for nightly dinners, souvenirs, and other personal expenses
  • Class will meet multiple times in the spring semester, starting in January to prepare for language, culture, class expectations, etc.

Please Note: The amounts below are the maximum cost associated with this program and are based off of 12 students attending. We highly expect this cost will be reduced. There is a $50 late fee applied on late payments.                      

  • $285 - Deposit and registration fee. (December 15, 2017)
  • $635 - First installment payment. (January 15, 2018)
  • $635 - Second installment payment (February 15, 2018)
  • $635 - Final payment (March 15, 2018)

Morning [through early afternoon]:

  • Visit Gloria Palacios School, located just 15 minutes walking from Hotel Estancia Victoriana, meet faculty


  • Lunch
  • Granada to Choco House to learn how to make Chocolate


  • Reflections on day in classroom, journal writing, preparing next day’s lesson, discuss tomorrow’s agenda

Recreation day #1 [Saturday]

  • Mombacho ziplining
  • Visit to the Colonial and Historical City of Granada; shopping, lunch 
  • Boat Ride around the Islands

Recreation day #2 [Sunday]

  • Coyotepe Fortress tour and learn more about history of Nicaragua
  • Pottery Class in San Juan de Oriente
  • Downton Managua tour and Lunch
  • Nindirí or The Cathedral of Managua
