Subject Arrested - Unlawful Possession of Weapons on Campus

Maxcy Residence Hall

On Tuesday August 21, 2012, officers with the USC Division of Law Enforcement and Safety arrested a USC freshman on charges that he unlawfully possessed firearms on campus.

The Division of Law Enforcement and Safety received information that the student was suspected of possessing a handgun inside the Maxcy Residence Hall. Officers were immediately dispatched to the area and the suspect was located. A lawful search was conducted of the room and the subject?s vehicle. Handguns were discovered and seized from the room, which resulted in the subject being arrested and transported to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center. He has been released and is currently with his parents out of town.

Law enforcement worked closely with USC Housing staff to ensure the safety, security, and care of other residents. Steps were immediately taken to ensure that the subject could not return to or gain access to campus, upon his release.

This remains an ongoing criminal investigation. The student has been suspended from the University and is currently not allowed back on campus.
