USC's Columbia campus will be closed Wednesday (Jan. 29) due to winter weather. University offices will be closed and all classes will be canceled. No decision has been made for university operations on Thursday (Jan. 30).
The S.C. Emergency Management Division has instructed, "State government offices and their employees will follow the same winter weather hazard decisions made by the county government officials where the state office is located." Richland County announced earlier Tuesday that it would be closed Wednesday.
A winter storm warning issued by the National Weather Service in Columbia remains in effect until 9 a.m. Wednesday.
Our Facilities and Law Enforcement divisions are deploying resources to deal with snow and ice affecting our campus. Faculty who have research that is dependent on utilities please note that we are being warned that services may be interrupted. Take appropriate precautions and be prepared to implement your contingency plans.
