Columbia CAMPUS CLOSED on Friday, February 14 due to winter weather. Check http://www.sc.edu/CarolinaAlert for more info.
USC's Columbia campus will remain closed Friday (Feb. 14) due to winter weather conditions. University offices will be closed and all classes canceled.
The SC Emergency Management Division has instructed, "State government offices and their employees will follow the same winter weather hazard decisions made by the county government officials where the state office is located." Richland County announced the decision earlier Thursday to close on Friday.
Facilities and law enforcement personnel continue to remain onsite to clear pathways and mitigate the hazards, but conditions may still be dangerous to both drive and walk. Please use caution when outside and obey all signs, caution tape, etc. For your safety, remain indoors when possible.
As the snow and ice begin to melt, falling ice will also be a concern. If you choose to venture outside, be aware of your surroundings. Stay clear from the sides of the buildings as well as large tree limbs.
Finally, while we appreciate the enthusiasm of those employees who generally come to work regardless of weather conditions, please do not put yourself at risk in these icy conditions unless you have been designated as essential personnel by your supervisor.
Please take reasonable steps to ensure your safety and the safety of your family. General tips on preparing for winter weather can be found at http://www.sc.edu/carolinaalert/procedures_winter.shtml.
