The S.C. Emergency Management Division has instructed, "State government offices and their employees will follow the same winter weather hazard decisions made by the county government officials where the state office is located." Richland County announced the decision earlier Wednesday to close on Thursday.
The National Weather Service in Columbia has issued a winter storm warning for the campus from 7 p.m. Tuesday until noon Thursday.
Facilities and Law Enforcement have begun deploying resources to deal with snow and ice affecting our campus. Faculty who have research that is dependent on utilities should note that we are being warned that services may be interrupted. Take appropriate precautions and be prepared to implement your contingency plans if needed.
Please be aware that hazardous conditions may exist on campus throughout the day on Thursday and some areas of campus may be closed due to icy conditions. Please use caution when walking or driving in and around campus and obey all signs, caution tape, etc.
Finally, while we appreciate the enthusiasm of those employees who generally come to work regardless of weather conditions, please do not put yourself at risk in these icy conditions unless you have been designated as essential personnel by your supervisor.
Please take reasonable steps to ensure your safety and the safety of your family. General tips on preparing for winter weather can be found at Carolina Alert.
