We work to improve the well-being of children, adults, and families in South Carolina and the nation.

The Center for Child and Family Studies partners with public and private agencies to build, maintain, and restore families and communities. Our staff has a wide range of expertise, from social work to multimedia. Many products from our joint programs and projects are available to the public.

Our staff is involved in a variety of programs in Child Welfare, Grief and Bereavement, Hispanic Initiatives, and Victim Assistance. Some of our programs provide direct services to the community. Others are designed to strengthen the infrastructure of the human services professions.

We are part of the College of Social Work at USC. Most of our work falls into one of three divisions.

The Education and Community Initiatives Division has several programs that serve the community and provide social work students with diverse opportunities.

The Research, Planning, and Evaluation Division conducts research projects that help determine best practices and evaluates programs of partner organizations. The staff has particular expertise in evaluating social services and public education programs.

The Training Division develops competency-based curricula that reflect best practices in social services. This division also creates effective forms of delivering information, including multimedia productions, conferences, and on-site training sessions.
