Hispanic Assistance and Bilingual Access Project (HABLA)
Through the HABLA Project, The Center provides telephonic interpretation to
the employees of the SC Department of Social Services and translation services
for DSS, the Department of Health and Environmental Control, and other community
organizations.
The project is staffed primarily by USC students who are bilingual. Some of
these students are Returned Peace Corps Volunteers, or they have had experience
studying or living abroad. Most are native Spanish speakers looking for an
opportunity to use their skills to benefit the community.
All HABLA staff are tested and trained through the
Interpreter Qualification Project
. Document translation are done by a team
of certified and highly experienced translators. The Center also conducts
training by request on Working with an Interpreter.
