Sara Davis is a credentialed clinical social worker as well as an epidemiologist trained in health services research and program evaluation. Educated at the University of Arizona and UNC-Chapel Hill, she began work in child protective services in 1967. Since then she has practiced as line worker and supervisor in CPS investigation, treatment, delinquency prevention, family preservation, foster care, and adoptions. She also has provided clinical supervision and program consultation to children's services programs, as well as field supervision to MSW candidates. She spent five years in hospital management, in charge of credentialing, quality assurance, and accreditation. She came to USC from East Carolina University, where she held an appointment in the School of Social Work. She joined The Center for Child and Family Studies in February 2000 as director of The Action Project, exploring how to reduce child maltreatment through community-based interdisciplinary education, developing Coming Together for Children: Community Prevention of Child Maltreatment, a curriculum for interagency training of middle and senior managers. She also developed Creating Conditions for Client Change , a child welfare training curriculum. She has created two curricula for social services case managers and supervisors to address Issues for Children in Care (Attachment and Visitation) , offered consultation for developing local Children's Health and Safety Councils, and now coordinates the state's Citizen Review Panels for monitoring the child protective system.
