Sara Repinski
As acquisitions librarian at the USC Coleman Karesh Law Library, alumna Sara Repinski is getting good use out of her Master’s degree in Library and Information Science.
Repinski completed her undergraduate work in 1998, having attended
both University of Wisconsin-Stout and the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse.
She received her MLIS from USC’s School of Library and Information
Science in 2002.
After looking at a number of jobs that appealed to her, Repinski accepted her first job after graduation at a small Christian college in Orangeburg. In August 2006, she began working for the USC Coleman Karesh Law Library, which seemed better fit for what Repinski wanted to do with her degree.
She began at the law library as a cataloger and was promoted to
acquisitions librarian for the USC School of Law library. Repinski
also serves as the Tech Services Department head.
As an acquisitions librarian, Repinski said that among other things, she orders, pays for and catalogs books, but she also deals with information management. “I do a lot of back-end stuff,” said Repinski.
To students entering the job market, Repinski said, “The best thing I can tell you is to just keep your mind open.” Repinski said not to get frustrated if you end up doing something slightly different from what you wanted to do. “You might want to do one thing, but don’t shoot down other options,” she said.
She also advises graduates to become a part of the college’s Alumni Society. According to Repinski, it can be very rewarding to be in the Alumni Society. She said that it is a great way to network, and that being in the organization has been a great experience for her.
