Alumni
Society helps raise money for ETV during telethon
by Matt Seal
Representatives from the College of Mass Communications and Information
Studies (CMCIS) participated in a telethon Aug. 25 to raise funding
for ETV as well as increase awareness of the College’s Alumni
Society.
During the telethon, volunteers from the CMCIS Alumni Society
answered calls and took pledges from ETV viewers. The volunteers
included Jason Burkett, Alumni Society Co-Chair Talyse K. Burkett,
Andrew Folks, Matt Seal, Valerie Byrd Fort, Sara Repinski and Elaine
Taylor. By taking pledges, the volunteers helped to raise almost
$13,000 for ETV.
The telethon was a good way for the Alumni Society to help raise
valuable funding for ETV, but it was also a great opportunity to
tell people about the Alumni Society. Between programs, Elaine
Taylor appeared on television and told viewers about the Society
and its upcoming events. She also told viewers about the benefits
of the Society and urged them to get involved.
The Alumni Society’s mission is to build an active and engaged group of alumni from both the School of Journalism and Mass Communications and the School of Library and Information Science who will work together to establish camaraderie and loyalty while, at the same time, support new and ongoing goals that enhance the College.
