Erlene Bishop Killeen
Instructional Systems Specialist for Library and Information Centers

Erlene Bishop Kileen is Instructional Systems Specialist for Libraries and Information Centers for the U.S. Department of Defense Education Activity. She coordinates curriculum and technology integration, strategic planning, facilities and purchasing, and training consultants for Department of Defense schools and school libraries world-wide. Prior to joining the DOD schools, she was District Library Media Coordinator for the Stoughton School District in Wisconsin. A librarian and educator for 30 years, she holds certification in school library media, instructional technology, and educational administration and curriculum supervision.

She is a three term Councilor-at-large of the American Library Association and was an elected member of the Executive Board of the American Association of School Librarians. She was a member of the School Library Media Standards Writing Committee of the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards and a member of the NETS (National Education Technology Standards) Writing Project Team. In 2003 she served on the ALA/ALSC Caldecott Award Committee.

She received a M.A. in Library Science and a B.A. in English from the University of Northern Iowa and a certificate in Educational Administration from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.

She is a member of the editorial board of Teacher Librarian and authored multiple reviews and columns for School Library Journal, Library Talk and Teacher Librarian.

Robert Newlen

Robert Randolph Newlen is head of the Legislative Relations Office, Congressional Research Service (CRS), Library of Congress. He has operational responsibility for congressional inquiry receipt and tracking; professional development and seminar programs for Members of Congress and congressional staff; and for CRS outreach efforts.

Newlen has been with the Library of Congress for 30 years. He has lectured and provided technical assistance on a wide range of library issues in Russia, the Czech Republic, Moldova and Belarus - as part of the State Dept. speakers program and through initiatives of the U.S. Congress.

He is currently serving his second term as an Endowment Trustee for the American Library Association (ALA) and was recently appointed senior trustee. In this position, he oversees the investment of the $30 million endowment. He served on the ALA Executive Board from 1996 to 2000 and is a member of the ALA Council.

He received a masters degree in library science from The Catholic University, an MA in art history from The American University, and a BA from Bridgewater College.

He is the author of Resume Writing and Interviewing Techniques that Work: A How-To-Do-It Manual for Librarians published by Neal-Schuman (2006). He speaks frequently on resume writing and interviewing.
