PUBLICATIONS

Keeping a continuous flow of information going throughout the year to members is very important to SCSPA. A bimonthly newsletter, Perspective, highlights association activities as well as relates pertinent information on the latest publication trends in all areas of scholastic journalism.

To enhance the efforts of Perspective articles, SCSPA publishes a yearly magazine, Scholastic Review, which features winning individual entries in the Newspaper and Yearbook/Magazine categories. Both Perspective and Scholastic Review strive to help staffs produce publications that are targeted to their specific audiences, photojournalistic in content and current in design formats. The publications compliment information received at conferences.

Since 1986 Adviser Notebooks have become a resource for advisers and their staffs. Beginning with the 2002-2003 publication, each notebook has a general section and then a section for each publication type: literary magazine, newspaper and yearbook. The notebooks offer new ideas as well as basic journalism concepts. Notebooks are updates annually. During the fall 2002 conference at the advisers business meeting, advisers recommended that the contents be sent to them unbound so individuals could arrange the notebook to suit their needs.

Scholastic Review is an annual publication that features student work from SCSPA member schools. This 36-page publication is a compilation of the winning entries from SCSPA's Excellence in Scholastic Newspaper Award (ESNA) competition, and the magazine/yearbook individual competitions. Winning entries are showcased in this special magazine distributed to member schools at the beginning of each academic year.

SCSPA also serves as a resource for information on other scholastic journalism organizations and the publications they produce. Books on scholastic journalism are also often highlighted in SCSPA publications so advisers and their staffs are aware of publications that address their field of study.
