ONE-DAY WORKSHOPS

What: SCSPA offers advisers and students one-day workshops for six-hours of instruction the following areas: Digital Storytelling, Final Cut Pro, InDesign & Photoshop, Journalistic Writing and Taking your newspaper online.

When: Saturday, September 26

Time: 9-4 p.m.

Where: University of South Carolina School of Journalism and Mass Communications, Coliseum

Registration deadline: Sept. 11

Cost:

• $50 per individual
• $125 for three participants

Workshop Descriptions

Workshop #1 – Digital Storytelling: Using Soundslides
Instructor: Doug Fisher, University of South Carolina
You will learn the idea of story and sequence and see examples of when to use them. You will also get information on gather audio and taking photos. You will have hands-on experience by taking your own photos and putting them together in a 30-slide show.

Workshop #2 – Final Cut Pro
Instructor: Amy Medlock-Greene, Dutch Fork HS
Learn how to use the editing software for your broadcast program or any type of video you produce.

Workshop #3 – InDesign & Photoshop
Instructor: Jake Palenske, NCompass Media, McKinney, Texas

Workshop #4 – Journalistic Writing
Instructor: David Knight, Lancaster County School District

Workshop #5 – Taking your newspaper online
Instructor: Shannon Jaindl, Irmo HS
Participants will be able to select a template and build their publication's Web site, which will be hosted free until Feb. 1 by School Newspapers Online. If you do plan to attend, please fill out the workshop form (hard copy to mail to the SCSPA office) in addition to the online registration.
