I Love the 90s: The class of 2008 says goodbye legwarmers and hello spandex
Along with the new school year came the latest batch of freshman to walk the halls. Unlike their predecessors, this year’s ninth graders made history before they even stepped foot on campus. The class of 2008 marked the first class of high schoolers to be born in the 90s. Even though there was really only a three of four year age difference between a senior and a freshman, the 80s and 90s were two completely different, influential decades.
When it came to fashion, it seemed the freshman were more vintage while the upperclassmen seemed to shy away, far away, from that 80s look. Most freshmen were content with the music and movies of today but still couldn’t resist a good Brat Pack classic. Childhood toys were also different. While 80s girls played with Cabbage Patch dolls; 90s girls played with Beanie Babies. While 80s boys played with GI-Joe, 90s boys played with Hot Wheels.
While most freshmen didn’t even realize this milestone, many were still excited about being the first high school graduates of the 90s. “I think it’s cool because it will be something I can brag about later,” said Rain Miller. Ella Hawkins also liked that she was making history with the rest of her freshmen eers because it made them unique.
The VH1 shows I love the 80s and I love the 90s were hits on television. The fads and exposed on the shows were all brought to life by our students.
