The Center for Teaching Excellence cooperates with other departments at the University of South Carolina to provide professional development opportunities for graduate students and faculty. In addition, we have identified local faculty and staff members' willing to share their knowledge and experience in teaching theory and practice. This page provides more information about these resources.

+ Office of the Provost

The Office of the Provost awards yearly the Michael J. Mungo Distinguished Professor of the Year Award (our institution's highest teaching award), the Michael J. Mungo Undergraduate Teaching Award, and the Michael J. Mungo Graduate Teaching Award. Eligibility and nomination procedures may be viewed here. + Office of Information Technology

The Teaching and Technology Services Division provides Academic Services and Instructional Development. The University Instructional Services Division supports Distance Education, Instructional Delivery, Instructional Technology and provides Media Production Services. The University Technology Services Division provides network and computer services along with campus-wide IT planning and collaboration. + Office of Research and Health Sciences

Educational research and scholarship proposals can compete for internal funding through the Research Opportunity Program and Small Grant Program. Program description, eligibility, use of funds, cost share requirements, application procedure, review criteria and award administration information may be viewed here.

+Faculty Committee on Instructional Development

The Faculty Committee on Instructional Development shall initiate studies and make recommendations to the faculty and administration on enhancing the practice and status of teaching. This committee also serves as the Advisory Board for the CTE. More information can be viewed here.

+Thomas Cooper Library

The Educational Film Collection houses and circulates an extensive collection of videotapes, 16mm films, and DVDs for classroom and educational uses. More information can be viewed here.

+The Writing Center at the College of Arts and Sciences

The Writing Center serves faculty and instructors who are currently teaching or would like to teach a course that incorporates writing. More information can be viewed here.

+The School of Medicine

The Office of Faculty Development provides programs, consultative services and resources to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in academic medicine. More information can be viewed here.

+Office of Student Judicial Programs

The Office of Student Judicial Programs is the point of contact for issues related to academic integrity. The academic integrity web site provides a flowchart of the academic integrity process to help faculty understand their role.

+Counseling and Human Development Center

The Counseling and Human Development Center provides psychological counseling, education, and consultation, to the University community, as well as clinical supervision for selected mental health graduates. Offered services  promote social, emotional, physical, and cognitive well-being for people facing developmental or unplanned challenges. More information can be viewed here.

+Office of University 101 Programs

University 101 is both an academic department and a course offered at the University of South Carolina. Its mission as an academic department is to provide educational opportunities for students, faculty, and staff.  All USC faculty and staff interested in teaching University 101, are required to complete one Teaching Experience Workshop. These workshops are offered twice a year at the beginning and end of each spring semester. More information can be viewed here.

+National Resource Center for the First-Year Experience and Students in Transition

The National Resource Center for the First-Year Experience and Students in Transition has as its mission improving student learning and transitions into and through higher education by providing opportunities for the exchange of practical, theory-based information and ideas through the convening of conferences, teleconferences, institutes, and workshops; publishing monographs, a peer-reviewed journal, an electronic newsletter, guides, and books; generating and supporting research and scholarship; hosting visiting scholars; and administering a web site and listservs. More information can be viewed here.

+TRIO

TRIO is dedicated to addressing the needs of low-income, working-class citizens who are interested in pursuing a college degree. It  offers five different programs, each targeted at a specific group of individuals from the 6th grade through adulthood. Services and activities include academic tutoring, cultural enrichment, financial aid counseling, summer on-campus residency programs, admissions counseling, and student mentoring. +Office of Student Disability Services

The Office of Student Disability Services works with faculty to ensure that students with disabilities have access to the information and materials needed to be successful in your class. If you need assistance in providing reasonable accommodations for any student please contact the office at 777-6142. Faculty are also encouraged to refer students to the office for assistance. +Office of Student Engagement

The Office of Student Engagement supports initiatives to encourage University of South Carolina undergraduate students’ engagement in curricular and co-curricular activities that facilitate their learning, academic success, and involvement on campus. Some of the supported initiatives are service learning, undergraduate research, study abroad, peer leadership,  and faculty-student interaction. More information can be viewed here.
