Teaching Excellence Workshop:

Energize Your Voice to Influence Your Students

Erica Tobolski, Associate Professor, Department of Theatre and Dance
Monday, January 24, 2011, 1:30 - 3:30 p.m.
Hollings Library Program Room, Thomas Cooper Library

Description

Like an actor on stage, an instructor with a strong, dynamic voice in the classroom communicates information in an engaging way that excites students to learn. This two-hour workshop will introduce participants to techniques they can use to enhance the use of their voice in the classroom. Practical exercises will focus on breath support, vocal projection and increasing vocal dynamics (how to vary volume, pitch, tempo and intonation). Whether you attended Professor Tobolski’s fall workshop or not, this workshop will improve your ability to energize your voice to influence your students.

Follow-up Activities:
Workshop participants will also have the opportunity to sign-up for one of two follow-up sessions to obtain individual feedback in a small group setting. Follow-up sessions will focus on either support/projection or vocal dynamics. These sessions will be recorded and each participant will receive a copy of the video for personal diagnostic support.
Participants will be asked to allow selected cuts of each video to be used to develop web-based tutorials to help faculty who are unable to attend these sessions.
