Teaching Excellence Workshop:
Service-Learning Pedagogy and Resources
Faculty Panel and Grant Information Session
Wednesday, October 27, 2010, 12:20 - 1:10 p.m.
Center for Teaching Excellence, Thomas Cooper Library, Room 511
Are you interested in how service-learning can make your teaching more effective and efficient? Research has shown that the integration of community service into existing academic courses can result in many positive outcomes such as increased academic performance and student self-efficacy. When designed appropriately, service-learning experiences can also reinforce course content and support meaningful community action research.
Recipients of the 2009 Service Learning grants, issued by the Office of Student Engagement and South Carolina Honors College, will discuss the pedagogical strengths of implementing service-learning into a discipline-specific classroom. The event will also provide a forum to explore opportunities for faculty support for service-learning at USC and current upcoming Service-Learning grant opportunities.
If you are a faculty member interested in service-learning strategies and outcomes, or if you are considering applying for a 2011 Service-Learning grant, plan to attend this event.
