How to Respond in the Event of an On-Campus Bomb Threat
- If you receive a threat by phone, try to obtain as much information as possible. Record the conversation if possible. Call University Police and provide your name, location, phone number, and as much information as possible about the threat. From a campus land-line phone, dial 7-911; from a mobile phone, dial 803-777-9111.
- Do not evacuate the building and do not sound the alarm, but wait for further instructions.
- If instructed to evacuate the building, move as far from the building as possible. Keep the street, fire lanes, hydrants, and walkways clear for emergency vehicles and crews. Do not return unless instructed by law enforcement personnel.
- If you see a suspicious object, call 7-911 or 803-777-9111. Do not touch, tamper with, or move objects or confront persons acting suspiciously.
- Immediately cease the use of all wireless transmission equipment (cell phones, laptop computers, two-way radios).
