When you complete the FAFSA it is important that you read
and follow the directions provided. You can save yourself lots of time and effort if you follow these tips.
Question 13 - Your E-mail Address: You must provide a
reliable e-mail address where you will be able to receive important
messages from the federal Department of Education. All communication
will go to this address so be sure you check it regularly.
Question 25 - Full-time or Part-time Enrollment Status:
Our system does not allow us to recognize your responses to this
question. We will assume full-time enrollment for both Fall 2008 and
Spring 2009 and process your aid application accordingly. When you
view your award letter, you will have the opportunity to let us know
if you will not be enrolling full-time.
Question 26 - What Types of Student Aid Interest You: To
apply for either a Stafford Loan or Federal Work-Study, please use
the codes below to indicate your preference:

We urge you to select a response from 1-4. If you use response 5
(Dont Know), we will consider you for loan assistance which you can
later decline the loan if you wish.
If you are interested in the Federal Perkins Loan, use the
same response as you would for Stafford Loans. Federal Perkins Loan
funds are limited and generally available only to the neediest
students who apply early in the year.
Question 97 (sections a, c, e, and g) - What Schools Should Receive Your
Information: The federal school code for the University of South Carolina - Columbia is 003448.
If completing on the web, you may do a school search to identify us.
If completing a paper application use 003448 as the code and
University of South Carolina, Columbia, SC for the name and address.
Question 97 (sections b, d, f, and h) - Housing Plans: You must enter
your correct Housing code in these sections of question 97. Please do not
overlook this part of the question. Skipping this question may
result in an incorrect award amount for you.
If you will not enroll at the University of South Carolina for the Fall 2008 semester,
please contact this office after you have been awarded, tell us your
plans, and we will make the necessary adjustments.
