The USC Development and Educational Foundations
both held their Spring Board meeting at the USC Child
Development and Research Center (CDRC). This state-of-the-art facility
is a partnership between the USC Development, Educational, and
Research foundations, the Yvonne and Schuyler Moore
Family Foundation, the Department of Health and Human Services, and
South Carolina Educational Television.
At its meeting, the Educational Foundation board authorized the staff
to make a challenge grant to an anonymous donor of up to $750,000 to
complete the funding of the John M. Palms Bicentennial Chair. The
donor accepted the challenge at the $500,000 level. This million
dollar gift will be matched with South Carolina Education Lottery
funds and used for the Nanotechnology Center of Excellence.
This past year the Educational Foundation provided more than $14
million support to the University from its restricted gifts and
unrestricted resources. This support was in the form of scholarships,
fellowships, professorships, endowed chairs, Carolina Distinguished
Professors, and academic program support.
The Educational Foundation welcomed new member, Debra Timmerman,
returning member, James Bennett, and elected Jerry Odom, as a regular
member of the board. Jerry previously served as the administrative
liaison of the Foundation.
