Green Office Certifcation

Thank you for your commitment to creating a more sustainable workplace!

Sustainable Carolina’s Green Office Certification Program recognizes departments who are making the effort to green their daily activities. Participating departments receive a certificate and are recognized on the Sustainable Carolina website for their contributions to a more sustainable community. Departments also will receive a window cling noting their medal status (bronze, silver, or gold) to serve as a publicity tool to promote the office’s dedication to sustainability. In addition, medal earning offices will be allowed to use the Green Office Certification logo in their own promotional material.

What is sustainability, exactly?
sus·tain·a·bil·i·ty [suh-stey-nuh-bil-i-tee]: noun

According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, sustainability is based on a simple principle: Everything that we need for our survival and well-being depends, either directly or indirectly, on our natural environment. Sustainability creates and maintains the conditions under which humans and nature can exist in a productive harmony in a way that permits present and future generations to maintain a high quality of social, economic, and ecological life. Sustainability is important to making sure that we have and will continue to have an adequate supply of water, materials, and resources to protect both human health and our environment.

What is a green office?

A green office integrates principles of sustainability into its everyday processes. Our green office plan incorporates:

  1. Recycling
  2. Solid waste reduction
  3. Reduced energy and water consumption
  4. Green purchasing and office maintenance
  5. Indoor air quality
  6. Green transportation
  7. Participation
  8. Innovation
