Dr. John Besley Named 2012 Rising Star
The University of South Carolina’s Office of Research and Graduate Education has named Dr. John Besley one of 2012’s Rising Stars for his commitment to research, teaching and service.
Each year a group of select faculty members are recognized for their outstanding contributions to USC’s academic community. The USC Rising Stars, who are nominated by other faculty members, are considered some of the university’s most promising early-career professors.
Dr. Besley is a member of the Science and Health Communication Research Group and a recently tenured Associate Professor in the School of Journalism and Mass Communications. His research interests focus on the origins of public perceptions of nanotechnology, energy technologies and genetically modified foods.
“We have a lot of great faculty members on campus so it’s great to be recognized,” said Besley. “I enjoy my work and hope I can continue to find opportunities to keep studying how people develop health and environmental concerns when it comes to emerging technologies.”
This year’s 13 Rising Stars are featured in the Spring 2012 issue of Breakthrough Magazine. The article on Dr. Besley and other honorees are soon to come and will be posted here: Breakthrough Magazine Online.
