K. D. Kennedy, Jr. Robert Burns Library Endowment

K.D. Kennedy addressing the audience at the celebration of
Dr. G. Ross Roy's 80th birthday, August 24, 2004, in the Rare Books and Special
Collections Department, Thomas Cooper Library
Mr. K. D. Kennedy, Jr. of Raleigh, North Carolina is a graduate of Duke University and N.C. State University, and an avid Burns enthusiast. Mr. Kennedy and his wife Sara Lynn Riley Kennedy are active in philanthropy, education, and theater in Raleigh. He has written two books of poetry: Our place In Time (2002) and Waiting Out In The Yard (2006).
Mr. Kennedy visited the G. Ross Roy Collection of Burns, Burnsiana and Scottish Poetry, and wished to support its work and future development through the generous establishment of an endowment. This extensive collection, acquired from Professor Roy in 1989, is now widely recognized as one of the best Burns collections in North America, and it regularly attracts researchers from around the world. An additional gift by Mr. Kennedy allowed the library to purchase a rare early American edition of Burns's Poems, chiefly in the Scottish Dialect (Wilmington, Delaware, 1804).
