Since receiving the Fox Movietone News Collection, the Newsfilm Library has
grown steadily through the generous contributions of businesses and
individuals throughout the state of South Carolina and the country. In
addition to over 11 million feet of Fox News film, the library holds another 8
to 9 million feet of film distributed over 15 distinct collections.
Currently, we estimate our total holdings at 20 million feet of film.
The Newsfilm Library continues to accept donations of
film, we and recently acquired an impressive collection of 16 mm home movies
shot by Mr. Samuel Bernard Lever (owner of Southeastern Film Lab in Columbia,
SC). These movies document life in the Midlands and serve as a vital
testament to southern history and culture. Preserving these and other amateur
and home movies shot in the South is a central mission of the Newsfilm
Library.
