EarthTrends-
International environmental
information portal. Searchable databases, tables and country
profiles by topic.
Envirofacts
- Queries, reports and maps from EPA
Superfund (CERCLIS), drinking water, water contaminant,
hazardous waste, toxic releases, grants funding, air pollution,
facility information, brownfields and chemical databases.
HazDat
-Information on the release of
hazardous substances from Superfund sites or from emergency
events and on the effects of hazardous substances on human
health. Includes site characteristics, activities and site
events, contaminants found, contaminant media and maximum
concentration levels, impact on population, community health
concerns, ATSDR public health threat categorization, ATSDR
recommendations, environmental fate of hazardous substances,
exposure routes, and physical hazards at the site/event. Also
includes substance-specific information such as the ATSDR
Priority List of Hazardous Substances, health effects by route
and duration of exposure, metabolites, interactions of
substances, susceptible populations, and biomarkers of exposure
and effects.
HUD E-Maps -
Combines information on HUD’s
community development and housing programs with EPA’s
environmental data.
Integrated Risk
Information System (IRIS) -
Information on human health effects
that may result from exposure to various chemicals in the
environment. The information in IRIS is intended for those
without extensive training in toxicology, but with some
knowledge of health sciences, and for use in protecting public
health through risk assessment and risk management.
Invasive Species Databases -
Directory of expertise, general,
terrestrial plant invaders, terrestrial animal invaders, aquatic
plant invaders, aquatic animal invaders, microbial invaders, and
regional databases.
National Library for the
Environment - Country
briefing books, Congressional Research Service reports and
international, regional, national and local "state of the
environment" reports and links to other resources from the
National Council for Science and the Environment.
National Response
Center Database - Oil and
chemical spill data from 1982. Search by location, responsible
party, type of spill.
Threatened and
Endangered Species Information -
Information, reports and maps of
listed, proposed and and candidate threatened and endangered
species and plants from the Fish and Wildlife Service. To search
for reports, use the Environmental
Conservation Online System.
Toxic Release Inventory (TRI) -
Information about more than 650
toxic chemicals used, manufactured, treated, transported, or
released into the environment. Manufacturers of these chemicals
are required to report the locations and quantities of chemicals
stored on-site to state and local governments.
TOXNET -
Collection of databases on
toxicology, hazardous materials and related areas. Databases
provide factual information and bibliographic indexes to
toxicological reports, studies and other publications.
UNEP.Net -
The U.N. Environment Network portal
combines research from industry, academic, government and
non-government sources. Includes national and regional
environmental profiles and indicators, early warning of natural
disasters and an atlas of protected areas.
USGS Water Resources of
the United States - Over
100 years of water data; real-time data transmitted from
selected surface-water, ground-water, and water-quality sites.
Historical water-quality data from rivers and aquifers and
historical ground-water level data.
Window to my
Environment - Prototype to provide federal, state, and local
information about environmental conditions and features in a
specific area. Currently includes information for EPA Region III
only (DC, DE, MD, PA, VA, WV). Information on air/climate,
water, toxic releases, hazardous waste, superfund sites and
brownfield areas.
Legal
ECOLEX -
Gateway to environmental legal
information. A joint project of the United Nations Environment
Programme (UNEP) and IUCN-The World Conservation Union. Includes
multilateral, international non-binding instruments, binding
agreements of supra-national entities, national legislation, law
and policy literature, court decisions, flora and fauna
databases. Project is in the first phase of development.
