Thomas Cooper Library Renovation 2005Thomas Cooper Library undertook renovations in response to student requests.
Students who have trouble finding a quiet place on campus to study have asked the library to provide more study space on the Main Level.
Plans were designed to put student study tables and carrels on this floor all the way to the windows on the south side of the building.
In order to free up this space, the library's acquisitions and cataloging operations were moved to Level 5 where extensive renovation occurred during the Spring of 2005.
The renovations on Level 5, were finished in May so that the Main Level renovations could be done over the summer.
The study furniture arrived for the Main floor in September. Three new group study rooms and an "outpost" of the Writing Center is located on the Main floor.
Future plans call for computer workstations as well as a Uniprint station.
This new study space on the Main Level is close to the reference and circulation desks and to Cooper's Corner coffee shop.
The education books and journals have been integrated into the collection by call number. Check the online catalog for the appropriate call number and location within the library. The Juvenile collection has temporarily been re-shelved on the Mezzanine Level during construction on Level 5. The Map Library remains in the same location and is open for service.
